whats so great about being 18 anyway? (I want to be all grown up)

Firstly, I’ve taken this question from a friends blog, it was, I suspect, a rhetorical question to emphasize the point that “nothing” is the answer to convey that she believes that 18th birthdays aren’t anymore important than other birthdays, but my point is …well that I couldn’t think of anything to write a blog about to be honest so I thought I will use the questions to get started.
Personally I am looking forward to being able to legally buy alcohol, not so much so that I can drink it but just so that I’m able to buy it, at the moment on the rare occasion that I choose to buy alcohol whether it be the stereo-typical teenage alco-pop or a more sophisticated bottle of wine (to share with friends btw lol), so there I am, ready to go to a party or a little picnic with some mates, standing in the shop with my alcoholic beverage of choice, now, I know the law and I’m not saying it should be changed, (drunk 10 year olds falling all over the place is not something anyone wants) but when the shop keeper looks at me with that look as if to say … 18?? HA I think not.
Then asks for I.D in a tone that says, I’m not going to sell you that because you’re a child, its frustrating, right and legal, but frustrating never the less.
I do drink socially at party’s and my mother doesn’t mind if I drink, I have never had a hangover, I have never thrown up drunk, and yet the law says im less responsible then those 20-30 year olds that fall out of clubs after some shots and a few pints stumble in to a road have a fight then fall asleep in a doorway somewhere, again im not against the law its just inconvenient at the moment.
When I’m 18 that’s the end of there being any lawful barrier labelling me as a child, and I cant wait till I get asked “do you have I.D” and can reply “YEP” ... so there we go, that’s why I think being 18 is going to be a big deal for me!
So, that was my first blog, random and a bit boring maybe, but I couldn’t think of anything to say so there we go, I will try write something more thought provoking next time.
Bye x
